Once you’re deciding to set up um an LLC
or a corporation in the state of
Indiana, an important first question is
who will be a registered agent? And
while in the state of Indiana, a
registered agent can be both an
individual and a business, um it’s
something that you want to take
seriously. And the reason for that is
because the registered agent is either
the individual or corporation who
legally is authorized to receive notice.
So if your company were to be sued um or
if there was some other notice that was
going out and legally um a service
needed to be done on that company, that
company or individual would be served
through the registered agent. So many
times our clients will request um that
we serve as the registered agent and
that way if there is any type of legal
notice that they receive, it will come
to our office first um so we can make
sure that our client receives it um and
understands what obligations they have
timely. In addition to that, as you’re
filling out information with the Indiana
Secretary of State, which is where you
decide and um and indicate who your
registered agent is, there’s a lot of
information on there that many
individuals automatically will put um
and that you may not need to. So
reaching out to um our office to walk
through that prior to um indicating who
your registered agent would be or really
completing any other information with
the Indiana Secretary of State can save
you a lot of headache in the future.

Indianapolis, IN business attorney DeAnn Farthing talks about who should be the registered agent for your LLC or corporation. She explains that when establishing an LLC or corporation in the state of Indiana, an important consideration is selecting a registered agent. In Indiana, a registered agent can be either an individual or a business entity, but the choice should be made carefully. The registered agent is legally authorized to receive official notices on behalf of the company, including service of process in the event of a lawsuit or other legal notifications.

Many clients choose to have the firm serve as their registered agent, ensuring that any legal notices are received promptly at the office and that clients are informed of their obligations in a timely manner. Additionally, when completing forms with the Indiana Secretary of State, there is information required that individuals may not fully understand or may inadvertently provide incorrectly. Consulting with the firm before designating a registered agent or submitting information can help prevent future complications and streamline the process.
