My father was a lawyer in Duluth. That’s one of the things that Paul and I share, both of our fathers were lawyers at one point in time. But my father never did any kind of personal injury kinds of work, and I slowly found after doing all kinds of different kinds of employment that in running an insurance agency and observing what insurance companies were doing to people, that I wanted to go to law school and represent people against insurance companies.

And so that’s how my interest evolved in, so I was one of those few who went to law school knowing what they wanted to do before they entered law school. And I have been practicing since 1977. I stopped counting at 100 jury trials. I don’t know how many I’ve done at this point in time, and I love it. It’s been an opportunity to get to know lots of amazing people along the way, including some of the judges and even defense counsel.

Minnesota personal injury attorney Bill Harper reflects on his experience as a plaintiff’s lawyer.
