One of my memorable asylum cases is a
case where this individual was in
removal proceedings and he had fled
Haiti because of persecution and he
moved to a third country and in that
third country he also re received
persecution as a result of his
nationality and so he fled to the United
States. What made this case very special
is that he had his family as well. And
um because of the role family plays in
my own life, it it made it important to
me for him to be granted asylum. And his
grant of asylum allowed him to also uh
grant his children, three children, as
well as his spouse. And now they’re
living in the United States and are
permanent residents. And that is one of
the cases that um I enjoy because of the
fact I was able to bring a family
together.

Miami, FL immigration attorney Ruth Jean talks about a memorable asylum case she handled. She recalls that one of her most memorable asylum cases involved an individual who was in removal proceedings after fleeing Haiti due to persecution. After moving to a third country, he faced further persecution because of his nationality, which led him to seek refuge in the United States. What made this case particularly meaningful to her was that he had his family with him. Given the importance of family in her own life, she felt deeply committed to securing asylum for him. Ultimately, his grant of asylum also allowed his spouse and three children to be included, and the entire family is now living in the United States as permanent residents. This case stood out to her because it allowed her to help reunite and protect an entire family.
