with contracts i think the easiest
approach or easiest way to summarize it
is kiss keep it simple stupid we don’t
need to
over draft it or over word it
if a contract can get done in a page or
two there’s no need to turn it into 20
pages the client doesn’t benefit from
having unnecessary wordage or verbiage
or fees
obviously we’re going to protect our
client in the in the drafting of a
negotiation of a contract but our job is
not to rewrite the wheel or rework it
it’s to make sure we protect our client
but we don’t need to
over complicate things

Oakdale, MN commercial litigation attorney Brandon Schwartz shares his approach to negotiating and drafting a contract. He believes that the best approach to contracts is to keep them simple. His philosophy is “KISS—Keep It Simple, Stupid.” He emphasizes that there’s no need to overcomplicate or overword a contract. If an agreement can be clearly drafted in one or two pages, there’s no reason to expand it to twenty. Unnecessary language adds no value to the client and only increases costs. While he ensures that his clients are fully protected during the drafting and negotiation process, his goal is to safeguard their interests without making things more complicated than they need to be.
