The single most piece of advice that I give to clients that have been charged with a crime is to keep your mouth shut. I can’t tell you how many times I asked people if they ever watch on TV when people start talking, and it’s they lose the case. The number one thing to do is not talk to anyone about your case. Don’t give statements to the police. Don’t talk to your cellmate if you’re locked up in jail. Don’t talk to anyone on the phone, either at home or if you’re locked up in jail because they record your phone calls. Don’t post anything to social media about your case. Don’t text anyone anything about your case. In other words, don’t do anything that’s going to self-incriminate you. It is by far the number one piece of advice I give to clients.

Philadelphia, PA criminal defense lawyer Brian J. Zeiger offers his #1 piece of advice to those charged with a crime.
