Kansas City, MO personal injury attorneys Geordie McGonagle and Jarrett Johnson talk about what types of cases their firm handles and what makes them different than other law firms. The share that the firm is committed to representing individuals who have endured some of the most catastrophic events imaginable. While they occasionally handle less severe matters, such as minor car accidents, their primary focus is assisting people through life’s darkest moments—whether the loss of a loved one, permanent injury, or other devastating harm caused by negligence. Each case is treated with compassion and individuality, with the goal of helping clients move forward despite overwhelming circumstances.
As trial lawyers, the firm operates with the belief that their work must meaningfully improve clients’ lives. They recognize that they cannot erase the past or undo the harm, but they strive to position clients for a stronger future.
Their experience spans a wide range of complex cases. They have represented survivors of abuse in religious boarding schools, families grieving the loss of children due to foster care negligence, individuals harmed by defective products, and victims of inadequate or careless healthcare practices. The firm has also handled cases involving unsafe products and situations where poorly trained security personnel abused their authority. Equipped with substantial resources and seasoned trial attorneys, the firm is prepared to take on any challenge, ensuring that every client’s claim is pursued to its fullest potential.
The firm’s approach is grounded in the extensive trial experience of its founders. Both began their careers as public defenders, trying numerous cases early on. One founder recalls handling three jury trials in a single month—an achievement that reinforced their passion for courtroom advocacy. After a period working in insurance defense, that founder realized the corporate setting was not aligned with their values. Partnering with a former law school colleague who had also dedicated their career to public interest work, they established a practice focused on representing working people, much like their own families.
The practice thrived, and in 2014, one of the original partners retired. Yet the firm continued, fueled by a dedication to advocacy and justice. Later, the founding partner reconnected with Jarrett while teaching trial advocacy at a law school. Recognizing Jarrett’s similar experience and commitment to protecting the interests of everyday people, the collaboration was a natural fit. Together, they have built a firm defined by its mission: fighting for justice on behalf of those who need it most.
