I think that the part that’s different about my firm especially in the employment law world it’s an exploding area. I’ve been practicing employment law since pretty much the inception of the existence of a lot of these claims in California. Obviously, discrimination statutes have existed for a long time but I think its important that you have an employment lawyer who is not kind of a Johnny come lately but someone who has been with that area of law for quite a long time and understands the progression and can argue to courts kind of all the different arguments that have developed over the years. And I think that having practiced on both sides of the fence both for employees and employers I really have kind of a unique perspective and the ability to maximize those arguments, customize the arguments to the particular client as opposed to more of a cookie cutter approach.

The firm handles all aspects of employment law. We do everything from the individual side to class wage and hour claims. And we practice both in the regulatory realm as well on the litigation side. The primary focus of the firm is litigation. We’re defending discrimination, retaliation, harassment claims, whistleblower claims. We’re prosecuting and defending those claims on a daily, weekly basis. We really do practice all aspects. I’ve represented people in claims investigations involving the Department of Labor and/or in audits with the EDD. I do represent in all the different forms both in litigation, administrative investigatory, the firm does all aspects of employment law.

I think that in the current environment in California in particular, that when you a client’s looking to hire an employment attorney that experience is absolutely critical. And not just experience as a lawyer but in particular in the area of employment law its changed and its changing every single day. The legislature passes new employment laws, there’s a list that comes out every year of the changes in employment laws and if you don’t have someone who is both a lengthy experience in employment law and also, who is familiar with the changing areas of the law its very difficult to get the kinds of representation that you need to get the result that you want to achieve.

And so, I think that when a client seeks out an attorney rather than just looking for maybe one or two large results, I think that the breadth of an attorney’s experience and their knowledge is something that should be the deciding factor.

Los Angeles, CA employment lawyer David G. Jones talks about what makes his firm different, the types of cases he handles and what to look for in a lawyer.
