The way we measure success beyond just
winning is the understanding that
litigation and any kind of uh dispute is
a very stressful situation for the
clients and it’s very important for us
to be able to manage that stress. So I
often have told clients that litigation
is like cancer. Even if you beat it,
you’d rather not have had it. So we
always try to resolve our situations and
disputes for our clients through
friendly negotiation first. But if
people are unreasonable, which they
often are, then we resort to litigation
in which we’re aggressive. And in that
context, uh it can be stressful for the
client whether they are the plaintiff or
they are the defendant. And so we make
it a point to help them manage that
stress because persevering in terms of
litigation is something that is very
important and is a very important factor
on having a beneficial outcome. So you
don’t want to have a situation where you
have a client that goes through the
litigation but the stress is just too
much for them. So ultimately success is
when we get the client the result they
want and they go to us afterwards and
they say it was worth it.
My partners and I work very well
together behind the scenes. We’re good
friends. We’ve been working together for
20 years. We generally like to
collaborate on cases together. This
helps the client to have two to three of
us involved in their case. Generally
speaking, two heads are better than one,
three heads are better than two. So, we
tend to collaborate. So this way uh the
client gets the most efficient uh
outcome on their case.
The cases that have made the biggest
impression on me in my career that I’
that I’ve handled are cases where
somebody’s really getting the wrong end
of the stick and I’m able to change
their lives basically. And there are
often cases that are really tough cases
that I feel a lot of attorneys might not
win. And I’m able to hang in and through
a lot of experience um really turn the
case around and bring out a result that
was perhaps unexpected. And those stick
with me and they bring a lot of pride
and uh and it’s exciting to see
somebody’s life changed by that.
