When I got involved with the NFL players, there was no free agency. Young fans of the sport today have trouble believing that, but it’s true. And the salaries were suppressed and the players had no ability to move from team to team. What the Freeman McNeil case did is that it was a jury verdict that held the restrictions on the players in the NFL to be illegal, to be antitrust violations, and eventually that led to the free agency system that we have in the NFL today.
