That’s an important question because harassment can take many forms. It can be written word, it can be statements, and insults, it can be even inappropriate touching. But having worked for employers and employees for over 30 years as an attorney, I’ve known that most employers when this happens they want to know about it. Matter of fact, they have a defense to claims if people are being forthright and telling them about things unless they don’t take action on those reports. So if you’re a victim of harassment or feel you are you have to tell someone and the first person you tell should be your HR representative or if that person’s not available tell your supervisor, if the supervisor is the problem tell another supervisor or tell that person’s boss. Employers are mandated by law to have policies to deal with harassment in the workplace and an employee is going to be expected to follow those policies and if an employee does and the employer doesn’t take action, woe to that employer.

Minneapolis Employment Law Attorney, Thomas Marshall, talks about what to do if you have been harassed in the workplace.
