Justice Scalia was a wonderfully witty man. Smart, passionate, and I knew him before he went on the bench. We had a couple of debates on various issues, including questions about separations of powers, something that both of us are very interested in. He was always a engaged judge, always asked great questions, always very passionate, determined, often adverse to the point I was making, but somebody who was always exciting to be with.

And somebody who you knew was interested in the case. Throughout his life, both as a law professor, somebody in the administrative conference on the circuit court of appeals, the Supreme Court, he was always passionately involved in the law. He cared about the law. We will miss him.
