Child support is ordered by the court either upon motion or upon the actual final action. Now you can have child support on a temporary basis at the beginning of the proceedings or actually, any point in the proceedings or you can wait till the end and have it ordered by the court. There is another way too that child support is ordered, if people can agree to a certain amount they can agree on a temporary basis or they can even agree on a final amount. If they can’t reach an agreement then the court orders it, but if they do reach an agreement you would still want to get that agreement memorialized and put into a court order. The courts does have the discretion to reject the agreement if it’s not in accordance with the guidelines, but in most instances if you have a good lawyer you can figure out how to get that child support agreement through.
