The Golin case is a very unfortunate case of a woman in her 30’s who is severely developmental disabled. Although an adult, she has the mental capacity of someone the age two to five years old. Nancy Golin one night wandered away from her parents who were her sole caretakers, and was missing overnight and the Palo Alto police were called in to help find her.

Nancy Golin returned the next day and the police officer, an experienced detective in the Palo Alto police department, concerned for Nancy Golin’s own safety decided that she should be evaluated at a psychiatric hospital for potential treatment and further care.

California civil litigation defense attorney David Newdorf discusses Golin v. City of Palo Alto.
