When we started our firm, 10 years ago, we definitely sat down and we thought about it. We thought about what is it that we want to accomplish. Why should people come to us as opposed to some other divorce lawyers or our family law lawyers? What makes us special? A lot of that was my business training where we had to spend a lot of time thinking about that in undergrad and thinking about what’s our mission statement and what are we about? We really thought about it that we think that we are particularly good at helping people plan for their future and giving homework assignments, get people’s minds focused on what they need to do. Having a strategic plan about how the case is going to go. What is our desired plan for settlement? What kind of settlement offer do we want to make? A lot of people are very confused, they have no idea.

We spend a lot of time explaining all the components of the divorce looking at all the assets, providing suggested proposals that people can make. Our big focus is having adequate planning in a life during the proceedings and after. If you don’t provide for enough money, your client’s going to have problems afterwards. If you go with a parenting time situation that’s not in the children’s best interest, they’re going to have a problem later. What we want to do is say no one wants to be here as far as a divorce or it’s unfortunate because obviously, the parties didn’t plan to be there but we are going to make an organized plan here. We’re going to look at all these components and we are going to make a recommendation for you.
