I absolutely love being a trial lawyer. That’s the thing I live for. It’s like a chess match and the NBA Finals all rolled up into one. And, if you have three seconds left on the clock, and you’re down by two points, I’m the guy that wants the ball. I want that. I love the competitive spirit. I love the strategy. And, you’re never more alive when you’re trying a case. And, it’s not all that different from being a director of a movie or writing a play about some event. You have all this information. You have all these witnesses and all these documents, and all this testimony that may have covered decades. It may have covered many, many years and you’ve got a week, or maybe two weeks to condense all of this information into ‘who are the key witnesses”, ‘who are the people who are going to present the best to the jury’, ‘who are the people who are going to tell the story?” It’s about story-telling. It’s about people understanding something that they haven’t personally experienced through testimony and documents. So, the strategy of ‘who’s going to be my witness,’ ‘what are they going to say’, ‘where are they vulnerable’, ‘what’s the best way to make the point to the jury’? It’s just a fascinating process and it involves human nature and human emotions and how do I best communicate my case to those six or twelve people who are sitting in the jury box, so they come back and find in favor of my client? It’s the most wonderful thing you could ever do. It’s the most stressful time. It’s the most miserable time in your life, but it’s also the most wonderful time of your life.

Minneapolis employment law attorney Greg Stenmoe tells about his experience in employment litigation.
