Taking Property Tax Appeal to Court

It’s interesting that a property tax appeal does not necessarily bring you into the tax court system. An initial property tax appeal simply gets you into the system to speak to the assessor and try to negotiate a resolution of the tax appeal. If that doesn’t result in a settlement, the case can sit for two to four years without any activity on it. What you need to do at that point is make a request for a trial date certain with the tax court. They will schedule a trial, usually in about nine months to a year out, and then you can set a scheduling order and begin preparing the exchange of information that leads up to an actual tax court trial.

Minneapolis, MN commercial litigation attorney Michael Moline briefly discusses the process of taking a property tax appeal to court.
