Defending someone accused of rape, child sex abuse, this sort of thing presents many difficulties but one of them is the bias that the system and the public and the potential jury pool and judges and prosecutors have against those kinds of cases. People are simply scared of them. So right away there’s almost a presumption of guilt particularly in a case of child sex abuse. On the other hand, those kind of cases are one of the most falsely accused kind of case as well. Because again of the volatility of it when someone makes an accusation, quite often, it doesn’t take much more to get someone charged.
When someone is charged with one of those kinds of cases, aside from their freedom their entire life is on the line, really, your reputation, almost for sure most people’s careers are going down the tubes before the case is even litigated. A second thing about them, like we talked about with the forensic science is that most of those cases include complex areas of forensic science. And so, there’s the emotional part but also there’s the scientific part and those are some of the big things about them.
