Not necessarily. In Minnesota, residential contractors are required to have insurance and depending on how the builder went out of business, we can still usually make some sort of claim so that we can access some of those insurance policies. There’s also a contractor’s recovery fund in Minnesota that provides some limited relief in some circumstances.
