If you own a home before you get married, your spouse may have rights to some of the value of that house. It goes to the distinction of assets in a marriage. There’s premarital and post-marital, active and passive. So without going through all the details of that, if you live in the house together or your spouse contributes in some way to the upkeep or the cost of it, then he or she may be entitled at least to the increase in value that he house experiences during the course of your marriage.
