The Fair Labor Standards Act was enacted in 1938, and its real purpose was to try to give folks overtime when they were working more than 40 hours a week. And so they look at what types of employees are exempt. So they’re working kind of the higher level positions and they’re not entitled to overtime, and then those folks who are none exempt who are entitled to overtime. So there’s hundreds of different subparts, but that’s the main purpose of the FLSA.
