Starkey Hearing Technologies Case

We got a call in September 2015 to come talk to some people at Starkey. They had found what they thought was evidence that he president of Starkey, Jerry Ruzicka, had planned to start a competing company and to poach some of the employees and take them with. So that’s what got us in the door and we started looking into that and within days after our engagement and starting to look through files and records and computers and interviewing employees we learned that yes, Jerry Ruzicka was planning to start a competing company but that was just the tip of the iceberg. We discovered that Mr. Ruzicka also appeared to have been involved in a variety of kickback schemes and other fraudulent conduct over a long period of time. So it was within two months that we gathered the evidence, we did the interviews; we did the forensic look at the accounting system. We went through all of the computers that we could and we assembled that and took it to the FBI and the US Attorney’s Office. They charged Ruzicka with operating a fraud over a period of more than 10 years. He was ultimately convicted by a jury and he’s awaiting sentencing now along with his coconspirators.

Minneapolis, MN litigator David Olsen talks about working on the Starkey Hearing Technologies case.
