00:04
well as
00:05
it relates to family law in particular i
00:07
am often fielded the question
00:09
why do you do this it’s a very emotional
00:13
very difficult very dichotomous area of
00:15
the law
00:16
and people often wonder why do you
00:18
choose this as your profession
00:19
and one of the biggest reasons is
00:21
because i do find it so rewarding and
00:23
the biggest reward is that
00:26
i get to meet with a client at their
00:29
lowest moment at their darkest moment
00:31
when they’re the most confused
00:32
where everything in their life is at
00:34
stake their children
00:36
their home their retirement everything
00:38
that they’ve worked for
00:39
is at stake and they’re coming to me for
00:41
help and
00:42
although that is a very dark and low
00:44
moment my
00:45
job is to help a client through each
00:48
stage of that
00:49
and to see them through to the other
00:50
side where it’s brighter
00:52
where they have a resolution and where
00:54
they can start fresh and move on with
00:55
their lives
00:56
and to see the difference in a client’s
00:59
eyes
00:59
and just the way that they hold
01:02
themselves their demeanor
01:03
you can see the weight of the world
01:05
lifted from
01:06
day one meeting to the time that we get
01:09
a final judgment or resolution
01:11
and that is the most rewarding part and
01:13
that’s what makes all of this
01:14
so worthwhile again it is very difficult
01:17
and
01:18
day-to-day is a challenge to get through
01:20
all this but
01:22
to help guide our clients through that
01:24
is what makes
01:25
the practice of family law so rewarding
01:27
and that’s why i do this
01:29
[Music]
01:34
i have had the benefit of working with
01:38
and i might be biased but what i what i
01:40
feel and what i’ve seen to be some of
01:42
the most well respected
01:43
and excellent family law attorneys in
01:45
san diego most recently i worked with
01:48
an attorney for close to 10 years she
01:51
is a wonderful and again well-respected
01:53
attorney and one of the greatest things
01:55
that i learned from her
01:56
aside from you know the the practice of
01:59
law
01:59
and the the skill set is
02:02
civility and that may seem like a simple
02:05
concept
02:06
but it’s not always in the forefront of
02:09
all of the cases that we see
02:11
but at the same time it is essential to
02:14
both moving our cases forward and moving
02:16
the practice of family law and family
02:18
law in san diego in particular forward
02:21
and civility towards opposing counsel
02:24
towards their staff
02:25
towards opposing parties even though we
02:27
might not like them all the time
02:29
the courtroom staff sometimes i think
02:32
attorneys underestimate the value of
02:34
having a good relationship
02:36
and having that civility and respect
02:38
towards the judge’s staff
02:39
because all of that goes back to your
02:41
judge and your judge sees all of that
02:43
and so just having that decorum and
02:45
civility and respect toward everyone
02:47
that you’re dealing with
02:48
throughout this practice will go a long
02:51
way
02:51
and again all of it goes back to your
02:53
judge and of course if we’re having the
02:55
trier of fact
02:56
decide what’s going on in our clients
02:58
cases it’s important for him or her
03:00
to understand and acknowledge that us as
03:03
attorneys are respectful
03:05
of the people that we are working with
03:07
again it helps us on a day-to-day basis
03:09
just
03:10
with the craziness of a family law
03:12
practice as well as helping our clients
03:14
cases advance
03:15
because of the reputation that you
03:17
develop by being
03:18
a civil and respectful attorney again it
03:21
sounds simple
03:22
but it goes a very very long way
