Each person that comes to us has a story, and the story of what happened to them is complex. So our goal when a client comes to us is to understand that story. We call it sort of discovering the story. And so we spend a lot of time with our clients trying to understand their story and what brought them to the place that they’re at, and that helps guide us as we prepare that client’s litigation and as we go through litigation. So that’s sort of our philosophy.

Well after I graduated from law school I went to work at a big law firm in Atlanta, and I represented huge corporations and companies. I represented Exxon Mobile, I represented Ford Motor Company, Coca Cola, and really found that to be very unsatisfying in terms of my day to day existence. I really wanted to care more about my clients and about my cases.

So I had a case where I represented Eckerd’s and in that case on the other side was an individual who had been harmed by Eckerd’s failure to fill his prescription correctly. And pretty soon I figured out I was on the wrong side, that I really wanted to be on the other side representing individuals who had been injured or who had claims against corporations.

So switched and went to a plaintiffs practice. I did that for a few years, and then really wanted to have my own practice, and started my own law firm quite some time ago, and since then I have done, had a wide variety of trial experience. I’ve been very fortunate to be in the courtroom a lot and had a lot of success all across the southeast and all over Georgia representing individuals who had been harmed by medical malpractice or by products cases.

I’m really a trial specialist, and not that many lawyers get an opportunity to be in court a lot. And I’ve had the privilege of being in court a great deal and being able to try cases a lot. And so I’m asked to speak at seminars about trial experience, about how to cross examine expert witnesses? How to give a good closing argument or a good closing statement? And also write. I have written for publications regarding my trial experience and regarding my trial work.

Atlanta, GA personal injury attorney Laura M. Shamp talks about her approach to the practice and her experience as a lawyer.
