Lawyers have to get time in the courtroom to become comfortable with it. You know, I think there’s an idea that when we graduate from law school that a lawyer’s able to be comfortable in a courtroom. And the truth is that takes time and repetition. We’re fortunate enough that we have a great deal of courtroom time and there’s really no substitute for it. So since I was very young and I was at the District Attorney’s Office trying juvenile cases to the trial of cases, you know, every year over the last 18 years we have a lot of time in there. What we’re able to do is overcome whatever barriers some people have being in court and seeing what happens. I go to court and I see it as a place where something good is about to happen not where something bad is about to happen. And I think that that is a benefit of the 20 years of experience that we’ve had seeing good outcomes come from the court system.

Los Angeles, CA personal injury attorney Thomas Johnston talks about how long it takes to get good at trying cases in court. He explains that becoming comfortable in the courtroom is an essential journey for lawyers. There is often a misconception that graduating from law school equips one with immediate courtroom confidence. However, the reality is that it takes time and practice to develop that comfort. We consider ourselves fortunate to have had extensive courtroom experience throughout the years. From my early days at the District Attorney’s Office, handling juvenile cases and progressing to the trial of various cases, we have accumulated substantial courtroom time over the past 18 years. This experience has allowed us to overcome any initial barriers and embrace the courtroom as a place where positive outcomes can be achieved. Rather than viewing it as a setting for negativity, we approach each courtroom appearance with the belief that something good is about to happen. This optimistic outlook stems from witnessing numerous favorable outcomes resulting from our two decades of experience within the court system.
