Minnesota is one of the few states that requires uninsured motorist benefit coverage. You are required to carry at least $30,000.00 in uninsured motorist coverage on your own policy, so if an irresponsible person hits you and injuries you, you have available to you $30,000.00 at a minimum of uninsured motorist coverage under your own policy. And that’s why that coverage is there, to cover you in the event that that type of thing occurs. I of course would encourage people to purchase much more than $30,000.00, the required statutory minimum. I very often tell people that at the very least you should have $100,000.00 in uninsured motorist coverage on your policies, and if you can afford it even more. That way you and your family are protected against people who choose not to have insurance.

Minneapolis personal injury lawyer Jim Carey explains how a person injured by someone who does not have insurance can still recover.
