I think the best question to ask a perspective family law attorney before hiring them is, “What can I expect?” And don’t ask it in the sense of expecting to get an ironclad answer, but you want a range of expectations. Not much in family law is concrete, but any good experienced family law attorney would be able to give you a range of what to expect, how many years something will last or how much something may or may not be. Even though it won’t be certain, you can judge how well the attorney knows his or her law by how much of an expectation of ranges they can give you on any issue.
