Some claims are gonna fall within range. We don’t do little auto accident cases, but you know, if you have a little whiplash cash, you’re gonna get $5,000.00 to $25,000.00, period. That’s it.

But for bigger cases – we only handle big ones – if someone has serious personal injuries that are permanent or there’s a death, the calculation of damages gets incredibly complex for a death. Was the person married? Did they have children? Were their children young, still expecting Dad or Mom to be around to be there for them in their teenage years to help them with college?

The damage analysis is extremely complex. It’s different in every case and it develops over time. Who you are and how this has affected your life might be totally different than who somebody else is and how it’s affected their life, and generally, people bring their cases to a lawyer within a few days, weeks, months of the event, but you don’t really know how things shake out physically and emotionally and financially until years out. Oftentimes, neurological damages, for example, doctors will say, “Well, we don’t know if you’re permanently injured until you’re a year or two out,” and so the value of your case is something that develops over time.

Minneapolis personal injury lawyer Bill Tilton explains how an injured victim can figure out how much money they should be compensated for their injury.
