Well, I’ve been practicing criminal law for a little over 16 years. I’ve handled – I’ve had acquittals in every single kind of criminal case from a DUI all the way to murder one. I’m one of the only lawyers that have gotten a judgment of acquittal at the end of a criminal – or at the end of a murder one. I’ve had my own practice since 1998. I absolutely love what I do.

And the reason I became a lawyer was because a family member of mine was ill served by a criminal lawyer, and went to prison for a crime they shouldn’t have gone to prison for. And so I was all set to get my MBA and be something completely different. I changed out of a personal motivation and I absolutely love helping people. So when I sit in that counsel, at the counsel table, and I’m going through a jury trial and my client’s acquitted of this or that, it is as though I’m freeing that family member all over again. And so I really, really take my job seriously, but it’s not going to work for me. I absolutely love, love what I do.

Minneapolis criminal defense attorney Bruce Rivers discusses his experience in criminal law.
