The biggest challenge is family fights.
I remember getting involved in a situation a number of years ago where a daughter came to me and said, “I need to be guardian of my dad who’s living with me.” We filed for guardianship and the next thing we knew, her brother and sister fought it. It was almost like it was a litigation between General Motors and Ford; that’s how intense it got.
But, if you get everyone on the same page, it’s simple. If everyone agrees who’s gonna be in charge, who’s gonna be the guardian, it’s simple, but when they don’t – when the children are still on the playground fighting over who mom loves best – it will be a litigation that won’t end.
