What is a non-compete agreement? A non-compete agreement is basically a contract between the employer and the employee whereby the employee agrees that they will not compete with the employer or that they will stay away from certain clientele for a stated period of time. An example of a non-compete agreement would be, Joe Smith goes to work for ABC Company, and Joe Smith says, “Once I leave employment, I will promise that I will not compete with this organization in a competing business.” Or he says, “I will stay away from the customers with whom I had a personal relationship while I was employed by the –
