The court expects both parties to contribute to each’s financial well-being. And so your need in retirement or your need in the later stages of your life, 55 and post-55 is determined by how much can you contribute to your own support and if there’s a shortfall in your need then your husband can be expected, can be coerced if necessary to financially contribute to that. But the short answer is you may have to go to work after being a housewife at age 55 when the kids are gone and many of your responsibilities, your homemaker responsibilities you’ve aged out of household responsibilities.
