Legal Fees in a Personal Injury Case

Personal injury cases are handled on what’s called a contingency basis. And what that means is you will only pay a fee if we recover money for you. And it’s based on a percentage of what we can recover for you. The good thing about that is that you don’t have to come up with money up front to talk to me on the phone, to have a meeting with me. Or if we decide to take your case, any time you spend with me, there’s no fees that you have to pay. Our fees are paid for out of the recovery that we make for you. If we don’t recover money for you, there are no fees that you are obligated to pay.

Typically the percentage, the contingency fee, is anywhere between one-third up to sometimes 40 percent depending on a case. And every case is different. I would tell you that once you’ve had an opportunity to talk to me about your case, I will tell you what that contingency fee will be, and that will be the fees that you pay if and when we recover money for you.

Chicago, IL personal injury attorney Ronald Kalish talks about what a personal injury case might cost from his firm.
