Everyone, or at least almost everyone asks the question of how expensive is this divorce going to be. And the answer we typically give is I don’t know. It’s not up to me. It depends entirely on how the case proceeds. And some of the factors that will affect the trajectory are opposing counsel, the opposing party, my clients’ involvement or lack of involvement in the litigation. But I think the best possible outcome is when a client stays involved but doesn’t overwhelm me or my staff. That will limit the amount of fees that are incurred.

But at the end of the day, the only way to truly protect from exorbitant fees through a divorce is to resolve matters amicably, to work with the other side and try and find common ground and reach resolution. That’s the only true way to limit the exposure and minimize the costs of a family law litigation.

Our fee structure is based on an hourly fee. So depending on which attorney is working on your case, there’s a partner rate, a senior associate rate, and a junior associate rate, as well as paralegal rates. At the end of the month we send invoices to our clients and welcome them to discuss billing with us if there are issues or if there are concerns. We try to work with our clients to make sure that they are comfortable with what we’re doing and they understand why we’re doing it. Because at the end of the day it’s their money and it’s their lives and we want to make sure that they’re comfortable with how things are progressing.

Los Angeles, CA family law attorney Ron Reitshtein talks about how much money a divorce really costs and ways to minimize your spending. He explains that many people have concerns about the cost of a divorce and ask how expensive it will be. The honest answer is that it is difficult to predict upfront. The total cost depends on various factors, such as the actions of opposing counsel, the opposing party, and the level of involvement of my clients in the litigation process. Ideally, I aim for a balanced approach where clients stay engaged without overwhelming me or my staff. This helps to minimize the fees incurred.

However, the most effective way to safeguard against exorbitant fees during a divorce is to strive for amicable resolution. Collaborating with the other party and seeking common ground can significantly reduce costs in family law proceedings.

Our firm operates on an hourly fee structure. The rate depends on the attorney assigned to your case, whether it’s a partner, senior associate, junior associate, or paralegal.
