Common Condominium Disputes

Some of the most common condominium disputes that we see have to do with the covenants or the rules of the condominium or any community-owned housing situation. Condominiums, townhouses, any place that essentially has an association, it has rules or covenants. Again, people go ahead and purchase a townhouse or a condominium, and they really don’t pay attention. Even though the law requires that you be provided a copy of all of the rules and covenants that apply to you if you’re gonna be an owner there, people don’t read ’em, and all of a sudden they start engaging in some activity or behavior that’s objectionable to others, and they don’t understand that it’s not as if they’re living in a house on a street, and there are no party walls.

But things like that really affect how people react to certain situations. Loud music with the neighbor, et cetera, et cetera. I just think that people understanding all the rules and restrictions on the use of land is probably the most important thing.

Minneapolis Family Law, Real Estate & Estate Planning Attorney John Brandt, talks about common condominium disputes.
