How Do Police Departments Operate?

Well I learned, I think most of the facets of how they operate, both large and small police departments. I think if you ask some of the police who I’ve deposed, they would say I know quite a bit about how they operate. I know that the police are very bad at investigating themselves and are more likely than any other industries – doctors, lawyers – to give each other a free pass on their conduct. And when I approach taking police case, I kind of think how will they react to this, what will they think. I like to think that we could convince other police officers that what this police officer did in this instance was wrong but I probably couldn’t. It’s very much an us versus them thought process and it’s been described as that by many very intelligent investigators and thinkers in the area. Why they feel so different from the rest of us is beyond me because they really are they to help us, they say, but it’s hard to help you when you really feel so apart from us. So I learned that.

Minneapolis attorney Robert Bennett explains what he has learned about police departments.
