Just about two years ago, we had a great verdict in Coleman County. A woman whose husband had basically stolen all his mother’s money but he had died. We brought the case against his estate and his widow had done a lot to try to hide the assets. So it took a whole lot of ferreting out. The interesting thing about it is we tried it in a very tiny, rural Texas county our judge told us that he hadn’t tried a civil case in 18 years to a jury. And the clerks were really surprised and dismayed. We brought back a verdict of several million dollars. It was a lot of fun.

Denton, TX trial attorney Grace Weatherly talks about a significant case she was a part of. She explains that just under two years ago, we achieved a remarkable verdict in Coleman County. Our client was a woman whose deceased husband had unlawfully misappropriated his mother’s assets. We pursued the case against his estate, despite the widow’s attempts to conceal the assets. Uncovering the truth required extensive investigation and perseverance.

What made the case even more extraordinary was that we presented it in a small, rural Texas county, where our presiding judge revealed he had not handled a civil jury trial in 18 years. The court staff expressed surprise and apprehension. However, our efforts proved worthwhile as the jury returned a verdict of several million dollars. It was a truly gratifying experience.
