Cited Art Landscape

The Cited Art Landscape is probably one of the most informative landscapes that you’re going to see on patent, because it tells us which companies have the most important technology relevant to the patent in question. In addition, we also have the backward citations which are the patents that are cited by the patent applicant against their own patent. And then you’ve got forward citations, which actually are the patents that are later issued that site back to the patent in question. And those landscapes are often different, because the companies that are important for prior art often are not important in the future. So we learn continuously which companies are interested in our technology going forward and how many patents they have and about the time that they have filed these patents.

Minneapolis patent attorney Steve Lundberg of Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner describes the Cited Art Landscape.
