Well, the options for changing either yours or a child’s name after the divorce differ between whether it’s yours or your child’s. Your name or a spouse’s name can usually be changed by filing a motion before the divorce court judge asking to change the name if you didn’t do it at the divorce process itself. Changing a child’s name requires that you go into a different court. You have to go into the civil division and file a complaint for a name change and notify certain state agencies of your intention. So it’s much more complicated and lengthy for a child.
