Being certified as a civil trial specialist demonstrates a certain level of experience and expertise specifically in civil litigation. Just as any doctor is qualified to perform operations, any lawyer is qualified to present a case at trial. That doesn’t mean that they are good at it or should be allowed to practice in those areas. A civil trial specialist has demonstrated that he or she has the experience of going to trial and has passed a test demonstrating expertise and competence in the areas of litigation. And to have been admitted as both a civil trial specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Board of Trial Advocacy demonstrates the highest level of certification in Minnesota.
