The advice is that you really have – I ‘m a big believe in academic research and a lot of scholarship and that leads to a lot of creative solutions. What every young attorney do is make himself or herself great. So you can do your assignments at the law firm and that will teach you a lot and you can learn all of the lawyerly trades, but you can’t stop there even though you might be working 10 or 12 hours a day. If you really want to make yourself great, you have to do more research on issues that maybe were not the subject of your assignments and make yourself well rounded. And really from the bottoms up you research where different laws started, what were the early cases, how the cases developed and you become a walking encyclopedia and develop a better understanding of why the law is the way it is today. And you also get to identify what mistakes there are today. It makes you a better lawyer and I think it gives you an edge.

New York business solutions, governance, restructuring & bankruptcy attorney Martin Bienenstock of Proskauer Rose gives some tips for your lawyers.
