The primary advantages are you get what is called nationwide effect, meaning that if you use your mark in just one section of the country that you have trademark rights in another section of the country where you don’t necessarily have that. You’re not necessarily using that mark at this particular point in time. Another advantage is that you get to use the circle R symbol in indicating that the mark is federally registered, which carries some import to it.

You also get to register your mark with the U.S. Custom Service to try to prevent importing or infringing goods being imported into the country. And you also get your mark on the register so when someone else comes after you and tries to apply for that mark or a similar mark, the U.S. Trademark Office will site your mark against that other person’s mark.
