As I’ve done this for 30-some-odd years, what I’ve realized is that a good estate planner is someone who can listen to the client, understands the law – both technically and the tax law – and knows how to write well, because what we do is all about the words. If our words are correct, then everything goes smoothly. The best thing to do is advise clients on who they select to make decisions for them, because ultimately, if you select the right people, it’s gonna work smoothly. If you select the wrong people, it’s not.
