Well, I think one of the things that makes our firm different is our size; our size is a mid-sized firm. What we’re routinely seeing now is you have really big firms or you have firms that are more boutique firms, we kind of operate in the middle. And the benefit of a mid-sized firm that we have is that we don’t have some of the same bureaucracy or challenges that big firms do to getting tasks organized and getting people organization. And then, and advantage we have over a boutique firm is that we have the resources to be able to mobilize people quickly to be take care of tasks to get things done. Our size allows us to adapt to whatever the situation is and the immediate needs of the client.

The bulk of law this firm does is litigation of one form or another that’s the type of cases that we, generally, handle. We’re a general civil practice firm so we can do the things that all lawyers do such as wills, probate, contracts, deeds, and so forth. We don’t do divorces and we don’t do tax work and we don’t do criminal law. But one way or another, most work we are doing is litigation either in state or federal court or the bankruptcy court. Insurance defense work is a significant part of the practice, that is where we are hired by an insurance company to defend their insured.

Commercial litigation is a significant part of the practice and that can be where two businesses are suing each other, it can be construction, it can be a wide variety of things.

Medical malpractice defense is a significant part of the practice. Because we have trial lawyers and we do trials we have an appellate section. So we have a lawyer that’s board certified in appellate law. We have a lawyer with a lot of experience and is board certified in commercial bankruptcy law. So that’s bankruptcy litigation type thing. Both the bankruptcy lawyer does that kind of mediation and Judge Specia does arbitrations and mediations.

It’s a wide variety of a contentious activity, I suppose.

Well, the most important aspect of service, as I see it, is being accessible and available. One of the things that our firm does is we respond to catastrophic events, so on a moment’s notice we can get called so you have to be accessible and available to do that. Many of our clients have our cellphones and the ability to be able to be reached, to be available, and to have a quick response is one of the things that’s extremely important to customer service, which is what we always want to do when we’re serving our clients. And then, responsiveness, so not only just being available but also being responsive. So many times in this world we get e-mails and there are quick responses that are needed, timely responding to important e-mails is important. And the one step further is picking up the phone. A lot of things that happen nowadays is through e-mail communications and people forget to just pick up that phone ‘cause that actually takes longer than sending an e-mail or a text. But picking up the phone so that you can not just answer the question in front of you, but also, be available to answer other questions that the clients may have, and follow up.

San Antonio, TX commercial litigation attornies Lewin Plunkett & Nik Mimari talk about what makes their firm different from others, the types of cases they handle, and the level of service they provide to their clients.
