In Minnesota, it’s mandatory to have insurance. So if you’re going to have a car you have to have insurance. That being said, not everybody follows that rule and the second mandatory thing is if you do buy insurance you’re going to have what’s called uninsured and under insured motorist coverage. And those are two very important things to talk about the first one being uninsured. And that means that the car that hit you the owner of the vehicle, the driver, whatever had absolutely no insurance. And so that means your medical bills are going to be covered by your insurance under the Minnesota no fault law anyway and any claim for damages over and above your what we call threshold, any of those damages would be covered by the other party’s insurance company. So your insurance company then becomes the other guys insurance and you have to go get your insurance company to get what you’re entitled to.
