So a copyright is available to protect different forms of expression such as art or literature or anything that can be put into a tangible form of expression. Now, for the purposes of technology, software code actually counts as a form of expression, so you can protect the software code that’s in your product by copyright. The thing to understand about copyright is that it only protects against actual copying of the form of expression, so it doesn’t protect against somebody independently creating their own software code or creating their own writing. It just protects somebody against another party lifting your expression and copying that.
