I usually find that American business people leave their American business hat on when they go overseas. So they assume everything they’ve learned in the United States will apply overseas and oftentimes, very little of it does. So they assume that the laws will be the same, the business practices will be the same, the customs will be the same, and usually that’s not the case. So the biggest pitfall I see is taking your American frame of reference with you and trying to do business in France or Brazil or Argentina and that can really get you in trouble.
