Yes, there’s one question that I’m asked almost as much as, “What is the divorce gonna cost?” And that is, “How aggressive are you?” It’s a question that brings a smile to my face because I know that the question isn’t really asking me how aggressive I am. It’s a question that’s asked out of fear. People come in and they’re afraid and they want to know that I can protect them. They want to know that I’m gonna take care of them. And so they translate it into being aggressive because I think traditionally that’s how people see attorneys, as gladiators, as litigators. And so I give ’em the best answer that I can. And what I tell people is, “I’m a Pitbull you can pet.” And I say that because there is an analogy. If you know anything about dogs, you know that Pitbulls are very sweet, gentle animals, but they have reputations as being fierce gladiators.

And so by communicating that to clients [laughs], that I’m saying is, “I’m really gonna start off the case nicely. I don’t want to be aggressive. I want to be friendly, I want to work cooperatively with the other side. I want to get this case resolved for the least cost financially and emotionally as is possible. But if push comes to shove, I can be a Pitbull, and I can bite, and I can litigate” because that’s what people need to hear is that that I’m not afraid of the litigation ring. I’ve been doing this for so long. There’s just nothing that frightens me about litigation. It is what it is. And there are some cases in which you just have to go to court.
