Can a company hire unpaid interns and the answer is yes, a company can but only under very limited circumstance. The Fair Labor Standards Act provides six specific factors that need to be met for a company to hire an unpaid intern. The factors are things like the internship must be primarily for the benefit of the employee or the intern in this case and it must also be educational in nature. If an employer is attempting unpaid interns essentially to do their work and it’s for their benefit, it will like not meet the six factor test under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
