Can an employer limit job openings to Christians? And generally the answer to that is going to be no, an employer cannot discriminate based on an employee’s religion as a general matter of law. There are, however, some exceptions. There may be exceptions if the employer can show that there’s some bona fide occupational qualification that requires a particular religion. And in addition to that some of the state and federal laws may have a carve out for particular religious institutions. The answer is generally no, but there may be some exceptions where an employer can hire based on religious preference.
