Ban the box in Minnesota is a new law that took effect last year on January 1 of 2014 and basically what the ban the box says is that an employer cannot ask about an applicant’s criminal conviction status until one of two things happen. Either the employee is granted conditional employment and then the employer can do the background check or the criminal conviction check or the applicant has been offered an interview.
